The Adventures of Sam Spade, Detective
Based on the character created by Dashiell Hammett
A serial based on the cases of a San Fransisco sleuth, Sam Spade first appeared in the 1930 crime classic, The Maltese Falcon. He quickly became memorable with Humphrey Bogart in the role and continued to be popular when Howard Duff took over the role for the regular series. A man for hire, Spade's principles nevertheless always shine through as a gruff, but admirable -- even lovable -- detective. The show was always sponsored by Wildroot Cream Oil as it moved from ABC to CBS, and finally to NBC, during its primetime spots from 1946-51.

The latest XVH recreation is immediately following the comic.

The Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail Caper Sam Spade
Written (or adapted) by Tallman and Doud

With Avery Rizio, Ashlyn Razzo, Chelsea D'Aprile, Phill Hoying and Dick Bedient as Sam Spade. Introducing James Greisler and John Pellman.

June 23, 2008--WHCL Studios, Clinton, NY
With one of the best titles XVH has ever seen in Old-Time Radio, the Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail Caper just had to be done on the basis of title alone. But it turned out to be a pretty good script too! Originally airing on Aug 28, 1949, in this episode Fritz Crockett, an abrasive and eager detective, provides Spade with a gig that pays $100 a piece for one night's work gaurding a jewel-studded crown. The only catch? Spade has to wear a bunny suit.
